• Leaking faucets or fixtures

How to Check for Possible Leaks

If you notice an increase in your water bill, consider checking for the following signs of a leak:

• Dripping faucets or sink fixtures
• Water movement or rippling in the toilet bowl when the toilet has not been flushed
• Pooling water around outdoor taps or hose connections
• Leaks from appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers, or hot water tanks
• A water-powered backup sump pump that is running frequently

Checking Your Water Meter for Leaks

You can also use your water meter to help determine whether a leak may be present.

1. Turn off all water fixtures and appliances in your home so that no water is being used.
2. Locate your water meter and use a flashlight to activate the display, if necessary.
3. Observe the meter reading and flow indicator.
4. If the meter continues to register water usage while all fixtures and appliances are off, there may be a leak.
5. Repeat this test several times over a period of approximately 15 minutes to confirm the results.

If the meter continues to show water usage during the test, further investigation is recommended.
