Garbage and Recycling

The Town of Essex offers residential curbside collection for garbage, recycling, organics (green bin), yard waste and white goods. For the current waste collection schedule please consult the Town of Essex Collection Calendar.

The Town of Essex offers residential curbside garbage collection on a weekly schedule:

  • Monday Collection - all properties south of County Road 18 (Wards 3 and 4)
  • Wednesday Collection - All properties north of County Road 18 (Wards 1 and 2)

Place garbage out for collection the night before your scheduled collection day. Large items and furniture (but not white goods) can be put out on any regular garbage day.

If your garbage is not collected for any reason other than noted above, please contact GFL Environmental at 519-944-8009. They are contracted by the Town of Essex for garbage collection.

The Town of Essex has adopted a single stream recycling program. All recyclable materials including paper, cardboard, newspaper and catalogues, cartons, plastic containers, metal containers, and glass bottles and jars can be placed together in the designated recycling cart.

Each household will receive a 360-litre wheeled, lidded recycling cart designed to hold two weeks of recyclables and accommodate a broader range of accepted materials. If you have not received your new recycling bin, please contact 1-844-415-4351 or WErecycling@gflenv.com

If this size cart does not meet your needs, you can request an exchange for a smaller sized recycling cart.

**The Town of Essex does not manage the recycling program**
