Joint Election Compliance Audit Committee
Town Council has approved the establishment of a Joint Election Compliance Audit Committee with the Town of Amherstburg, Town of Essex, Town of Kingsville, Municipality of Lakeshore, Town of LaSalle, and Town of Tecumseh for the 2026-2030 term of Council. By-Law 2533, establishes this Joint Election Compliance Audit Committee and was passed on May 4, 2026.
The establishment of a Compliance Audit Committee is required pursuant to the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 Section 88.37 (“Act”), before October 1 in an election year. Establishing a Joint Committee offers participating municipalities numerous efficiencies. Particularly, it has the greatest potential to reach the broadest spectrum of interested and qualified applicants in a cost-effective manner while maintaining compliance with the Act.
The participating municipalities, including Town of Essex, will be appointing five committee members and one alternate member to the Joint Compliance Audit Committee through an upcoming application process.
Selection will be based on the following criteria:
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of municipal election campaign financing rules;
- Proven analytical and decision-making skills;
- Experience working on a committee, task force, or similar setting;
- Availability and willingness to attend meetings; and
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preference will be given to those persons who have demonstrated experience in public accounting, auditing, legal and the application of campaign finance rules.
Details on the application process will be posted as information becomes available.
