Position Status: Temporary Assignment – Election Day and/or Advance Poll
Location: Town of Essex; Harrow, McGregor, Colchester, Essex Centre
Hourly Rate: $225 a day + $50 for training
Hours of Work: Up to 12 hours
What to expect in this role?
The Information Officer (IO) greets, directs, and assists electors at a voting location.
Reporting to the Elections Coordinator, you will:
- Ensure the voting location is free of any partisan campaign materials.
- Ensure the voting location is accessible to the electors, and assist with accessibility requirements, including opening doors for electors.
- Greet electors at the voting location and request they have proper identification ready.
- Assist electors at the voting location and provide them with instructions and directions.
- Assist electors with disabilities, if required.
- Manage a large volume of electors within a voting location.
- Escalate elector issues to the SDRO in an efficient and timely manner, as required.
- Assist SDRO in shutting down the voting location, packing poll materials and removing all posters and signs after closing on election night.
How to qualify:
- Availability to work up to 13 hours on election day, remaining on-site for the entire assignment.
- Must attend an IO/Greeter training session.
- Ability to read and observe voting procedures at the voting location.
- Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to identify and verify information provided by an elector in a timely
- Ability to learn quickly, follow directions, and complete repetitive duties.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Be at least 16 years of age on election day.
