Town of Essex Introduces By-Law Bicycle Patrols
The Town of Essex is introducing a new bicycle patrol program for its By-Law Enforcement Team, providing officers with a more visible, accessible and environmentally friendly way to serve residents and visitors throughout the community.
Following extensive planning and preparation by Administration, the bicycle patrol has officially launched this week. The initiative is intended to increase the presence of By-Law Officers in busy community areas, particularly during the spring and summer months.
The bicycle patrol program is part of the Town’s ongoing efforts to explore more sustainable approaches to municipal operations. The Town recently added a new hybrid Toyota RAV4 to its By-Law Enforcement fleet, providing officers with a more fuel-efficient vehicle for their work throughout the municipality.
“By-Law Enforcement plays an important role in keeping our community safe and welcoming for all, and this new bicycle patrol program gives our officers another way to connect with residents and visitors,” said the Mayor of the Town of Essex.
Bicycle patrols will provide increased visibility and service in a number of areas, including:
- Colchester Beach;
- Main streets throughout the entire municipality;
- Town-owned properties;
- Community events; and
- Parking and other By-Law enforcement areas.
The Town’s By-Law Enforcement vehicle will soon be equipped with a bicycle rack, allowing officers to transport the bicycles and conduct patrols throughout the municipality.
