Smoke Testing Coming Up in the Town of Essex

Smoke testing in the Town of Essex is scheduled to take place next week throughout the municipality.

This annual testing of our sanitary sewer system will help locate cracks and leaks that can lead to increased water flow.

The testing is expected to take place the week of October 26 to 30, 2026, weather permitting.

The testing will begin in Colchester, then continue to Harrow, and end in Essex Centre, and will be conducted by Hurricane SMS Inc.

Residents in the affected areas will receive hand-delivered notices from our contractor.

What to Expect:

A non-hazardous vapour will be released into the sewer system, which may appear as smoke in your area.

If you see any smoke entering your home through floor drains or sinks, please document the location and contact Hurricane SMS Inc. immediately at (519) 818-2338.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep our infrastructure safe and efficient!
