Maidstone-Talbot Intersection Improvements Project
The Maidstone-Talbot Intersection Improvement Project will enhance one of the community's busiest intersections by increasing its capacity for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists while replacing aging underground infrastructure. Once complete, the intersection will provide safer turning movements, improved traffic operations, upgraded municipal services, and new active transportation connections.
Key Improvements
- New dedicated turn lanes to improve traffic flow, including right-turn lanes on Talbot Street North and left-turn lanes on Maidstone Avenue.
- Modern traffic signals with dedicated cyclist signals to improve safety for all road users.
- The beginning of a future multi-use pathway that will provide a safer and more accessible route for pedestrians and cyclists and connect with future active transportation infrastructure.
- A new sidewalk along the south side of Maidstone Avenue between Bell Avenue and Talbot Street North.
- New watermain and storm sewer infrastructure to improve the reliability and capacity of underground municipal services.
- Upgraded street lighting to improve visibility and safety throughout the intersection.
- New asphalt pavement and roadway reconstruction to create a smoother, longer-lasting driving surface.
What to Expect During Construction
Construction at the intersection of Maidstone Avenue and Talbot Street North will include temporary road closures and traffic changes. Motorists are encouraged to follow posted detour signs, plan alternate routes, and allow extra travel time while work is underway.
Nearby businesses will remain open during construction, and the Town’s contractor will make every effort to maintain access throughout the project.
Project Timeline
July 30, 2026 - Construction Begins
- Construction activities commence, including site preparation and initial work within the project area.
Summer/Fall 2026 - Construction Activities Continue
- Work progresses through various phases, including underground infrastructure improvements, intersection upgrades, and roadway construction.
November 2026 - Anticipated Project Completion
- Construction is expected to be substantially complete, with the improved intersection ready for use.
