New Accessible Pool Lifts

The Town of Essex held a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 24, 2026, at the Essex Recreation Complex to celebrate the installation of two new accessible pool lifts. The project was made possible through funding from the Province of Ontario’s Enhancing Access to Spaces for Everyone Grant, which supports improvements that make community spaces more inclusive and accessible.

“Swimming is one of the most beneficial forms of physical activity,” said Mayor Bondy. “It improves strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health while being gentle on the joints. For individuals with limited mobility, those recovering from injury, or residents living with physical challenges, access to the pool can provide important therapeutic benefits that support both physical and mental well-being.”

The newly installed lifts will help remove barriers for residents of all ages and abilities, making it easier to participate in swim programs, fitness activities, rehabilitation, and social recreation.

The Town thanks the Government of Ontario for its support, as well as Council and municipal staff for their continued commitment to accessibility and inclusion in local facilities.

The accessible lifts are now available for use at the Essex Recreation Complex pool.
