Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Programs

As climate change continues to bring more frequent and severe weather events, the Town of Essex is helping residents protect their homes. The Town offers many Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Programs to assist homeowners in reducing the risk of basement flooding on private property.

These programs provide financial support for eligible improvements for a maximum lifetime subsidy of $3,625 – subject to eligibility criteria.

Available Subsidies

Eligible homeowners may receive funding for the following projects:

• Backwater Valve Installation (permit required): up to 100% of costs, to a maximum of $1,000
• Sump Pump Installation (including sump pit): up to 100% of costs, to a maximum of $1,750
• Investigative Pipe Camera Work: up to 100% of costs, to a maximum of $400
• Downspout Disconnection: up to 100% of costs, to a maximum of $75
• Rain Barrel Purchase: up to 100% of costs, to a maximum of $100
• Sump Pump Overflow Installation: up to 100% of costs, to a maximum of $300
