Local beautification efforts and civic pride are encouraged and rewarded through the Essex Communities in Bloom program.
Communities in Bloom is a national non-profit organization that fosters civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification. The Town of Essex participates in this program through its Communities in Bloom Committee, which holds an annual Front Yard and Balcony Contest and enters the national competition each year.
Nominate yourself, a friend or a neighbour. Properties will be judged based on curb appeal, tidiness and maintenance, floral displays, landscape and creativity.
Nominations will be accepted until July 31. Judging will begin shortly thereafter.
Essex Communities in Bloom succeeds not only in helping communities to enhance their surroundings, but also in encouraging a unified effort. It is a municipality-wide initiative that encourages everyone in the Town of Essex to take pride in their property and to work together to promote green spaces, environmental responsibility, and natural and cultural heritage conservation.
In April 2018, Town Council officially proclaimed the week of May 7 as Communities in Bloom Week.
The proclamation celebrates the ongoing success of the Town’s Communities in Bloom efforts, which began in 1999.
Over the years Essex has received special mention by Communities in Bloom judges for the following features:
