Friday marked the end of a successful and busy week of programs for the Town of Essex Culture and Recreation team. The Town hosted aquatic programs and day camps under new safety protocols for the first time this week.
“We’re back to doing what we do best, providing high quality programs and recreation opportunities for youth and residents of all ages,” said Cynthia Cakebread, Manager of Recreation and Culture. “While our programs and camps are limited in terms of participant numbers, the experience we offer has been nearly identical.”
In-person day camp programs, for instance, were previously run with more than 100 participants. Under new safety protocols and guidance from local and provincial health authorities, camps are now operating with a 16-child capacity. Aquatics program, such as Aquafit and Spin H2O, have seen similar limits on capacity. The Town has also added a new suite of virtual programming in partnership with Brain Chase.
“Even with physical distancing protocols in place, our aquatics program participants are glad to be back and active in the water,” Cakebread said, adding that users have been cooperative in following the new program and activity guidelines.

Both in-person and virtual day camps are now open for registration online at www.essexconnect.ca.
