This is a significant cost to taxpayers and requires police resources to be diverted from other community safety needs.

The Town of Essex asks for the cooperation and assistance of all security system owners and operators in keeping their systems maintained and operating properly. Reducing the number of false alarm in the Town of Essex will result in much better use of our policing resources.
Security Alarm System RegistrationBy-Law No. 2029 requests all residential and commercial property owners who have a security alarm system to register their system. Registration is easy, and it will help reduce the demand on the police service and avoid penalty fees. There is no cost associated with registration, however, all registrations are required to be renewed at the end of the calendar year.

False Alarm Penalty FeesA $180.00 penalty fee will be imposed for false alarm responses at non-registered premises and for a third and subsequent response at registered premises, as per the Fees and Charges By-Law. Registered premises will not be charged for the first two false alarm responses from the police service.
