On Wednesday, June 16, the Town of Essex joined representatives from the Valente Development Corporation for a ground-breaking ceremony at the site of the Essex Town Centre subdivision in Essex Centre.
The Essex Town Centre subdivision is slated to add 567 residential units consisting of single family homes, semi-detached, and townhomes. The first two phases, currently under construction, will add 135 townhomes and 19 single family homes to the community. The completed development will have a $350 million total value, and construction will create a wide range of direct and indirect jobs.
“The Town of Essex is very well located within the Essex County area, it is a great location to commute to all municipalities,” said Peter Valente, President of the Valente Corporation. “The Town of Essex team has been very supportive of our development, helping us overcome many challenges, including some front-end financing to support the development.”
Valente added that the development has already attracted significant interest with over 300 people signed up for the waiting list.
At their April 6, 2021 Regular Meeting, Town of Essex Council passed an agreement and by-law to provide front-end financing to assist developers with the cost of site servicing and infrastructure for large-scale residential developments.
“As a Council, housing has been a priority since day one,” said Mayor Larry Snively. “This new development represents a significant investment in the Town of Essex and will help provide a range of newly built housing options in our community. We’ve worked hard to attract investment with creative and cost-effective solutions, and we are happy to see shovels in the ground.”
