24th Annual Essex Train Show

Heritage Essex presents the 24th Annual Essex Train Show featuring the model trains and displays at Essex Public School on February 23 & 24, 2019.

Enjoy Southwestern Ontario’s largest model train show highlighting the model train hobby, while paying homage to the rich railroading history in Essex Centre.

The show attracts everyone from families to model train enthusiasts and hobbyists. Enjoy displays and vendor tables featuring model & toy trains, engines, parts and accessories. Interactive exhibits will be set up for youths to enjoy.

Proceeds will benefit Heritage Essex Inc. which operates The Essex Railway Station.

The show takes place from 9:30am-3:30pm on both days.

Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and teens, $3 for children and under 3 years old are free.

Maple Syrup Festival

Wear your boots to Essex County’s premier Maple Syrup Festival at the John R. Park Homestead. Make maple taffy in the snow, and see syrup being made the pioneer way. Enjoy demonstrations, hands-on activities and more! New this year, we have extended the popular event over two days! Day 1 of the festival: Lumberjacks Love Maple theme

On Saturday, the Homestead invites all visitors to don their best ‘lumberjack look’ – get out your plaid jackets and fuzzy toques for this first day of Maple Festival! This day will feature all of the old-fashioned favourites, including pioneer maple making demonstrations of blacksmithing, woodcarving, and more!

Also featuring maple themed lunch from a local food truck and live music by Mike Houston and the Woodchoppers! New this year, on the Saturday, the Festival will also feature a Beard and Moustache Competition, a Maple Market, a Mini-Maple Makers’ activity for kids, and more!

$6/adult, $4/child (ages 3-16), or $20 family maximum

March Mac'ness with EPIC Wine Country

International Women's Day is a global celebration of the economic, political, social and cultural achievements of women. It's a day to stand together and celebrate the movers and shakers while empowering the future leaders. On Thursday, March 7th, the University of Windsor EPICentre will be hosting an International Women's Day panel discussion at Waters Edge Event Centre. The evening will feature a seated dinner followed by a panel discussion with some of Windsor's fearless female leaders and finally a question and answer period from our audience. We hope you can join us for this empowering, inspiring evening. We are offering two ticket options, the first provides entry to the event and your meal, the second provides entry, a meal and an inspirational t-shirt from Bad Babes Co. $5 from the T-shirt ticket sales will be donated to a local women's charity. All attendees who have purchased a t-shirt will be asked to email layanb@uwindsor.ca your t-shirt size.

Maple March Break for Families

A family friendly maple event perfect for celebrating March Break. Tour the site with interpreters guiding you along the way. Learn the history of this sweet springtime treat as you help to make and taste maple sugar. Arrive early, dress warmly, and be sure to wear boots!

Help carry the sap using pails and a wooden yoke. Try your hand at the brace and bit drill. See the trees tapped and the sap evaporating.

$6/adult, $4/child (ages 3-16), $20 family maximum.

Maple Dinner Fundraiser

Join us at Oxley Estate Winery for a maple-themed dinner on March 30. Reception begins at 6:00pm, dinner service at 6:30pm. Proceeds from this event go towards the Essex Region Conservation Foundation for cultural heritage to protect and restore the John R. Park Homestead.

Enjoy four delectable courses with a taste of maple at every step. Homestead interpreters will be on hand to teach about maple history in the region.
