The Town of Essex is responsible for new construction, reconstruction and ongoing maintenance of Town-owned roads and sidewalks.
Long-range planning
Our Infrastructure and Development Department coordinates and schedules municipal road and sidewalk infrastructure projects based on an ongoing evaluation to assess their condition and to prioritize repairs and upgrades based on funding availability.
Roads
The Town uses a balanced approach to funding the ongoing maintenance of municipal roads.

Sidewalks
The Town is committed to creating walkable communities. As evidence of that commitment, we are attempting to construct new sidewalks in all urban neighbourhoods and upgrades are routinely made to existing sidewalks to make walking easier for all ages.
