Changes to the vacancy rebate program mean that owners of commercial and industrial properties will no longer be provided financial relief for vacant portions of their properties.
The program was established by the province in 1998 under section 364 of the Municipal Act. The program means municipalities could provide up to 35 per cent tax rebates to owners of vacant commercial and industrial property.

At their regular Council Meeting on May 7, Essex Town Council supported a recommendation to change credit card practices for property tax payments at Town Hall.
The change means that, effective June 30, 2018, the Town will no longer accept credit card payments over the phone for property tax payments. In-person transactions will also be limited to a maximum of $1,000.

Under the Nuisance Weed and Tall Grass Control By-Law (By-Law Number 1440), tall grass and nuisance weeds have been deemed a public nuisance. Property owners and occupants are required to cut and maintain tall grass to a height not exceeding 8 inches (20 centimeters), and destroy and remove all nuisance weeds and weed seeds.

Beginning on Monday June 4, 2018, the Union Water Supply System (UWSS) will be temporarily changing to a free chlorine disinfection method in the water distribution system for the UWSS service area, which includes the Municipality of Leamington, Town of Kingsville and parts of the Town of Essex and Town of Lakeshore.
