Human Resources and Employer Obligations

Hiring employees can be a challenge. It is important to find the right people with the right skills who will help you accomplish your business goals and who reflect your values and the image you want to portray.

There are many legal responsibilities to consider. Once you have employees you will also be obligated to maintain records and submit mandatory payments for such things as WSIB, Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan and Employer Health Tax. These deductions are based on a percentage of your total payroll.

You will also need to maintain payroll records, make tax deductions, issue income tax forms and records of employment. Many business owners choose to have an accountant or bookkeeper do this record keeping.

The WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation website has a chart outlining the most common costs of doing business in the region.

WorkForce WindsorEssex has some great tools for employers who are thinking of hiring, looking for specific skill sets, or needing help with other human resource issues.
