Facility Rental User Group Insurance

As of October 15, 2012, all user groups and individuals must carry liability insurance when renting a Town of Essex facility.

If you don’t have liability insurance, the Town of Essex can help.

Town of Essex User Group Insurance Program

The User Group Insurance Program is offered to rental users of Town of Essex facilities (i.e. ice pads, sports fields, gyms, pools, floors, rooms and picnic areas) that do not carry their own or adequate insurance.

All user group members, including executives, managers, coaches, trainers, officials and volunteers, are covered while acting within the scope of their duties on the group’s behalf.

Facility users may purchase liability insurance during the booking process or provide proof of liability insurance that meets the User Group Insurance Program requirements.

Insurance Rates

Insurance rates are based on the type of activity and perceived risk categories associated with the activity. Rental users are required to provide proof of a minimum limit of liability of $2 million. Higher risk events (e.g. licensed alcohol rentals) must provide proof of coverage based on an insurance assessment.

How to Purchase Insurance

Insurance can be purchased through the User Group Insurance Program at the time of booking. The cost will be added to your rental agreement along with the applicable taxes.

How to Provide Proof of Insurance

If a facility user already carries the required liability insurance, proof of insurance naming the Town of Essex as an additional insured must be provided by the user group’s insurance broker using the Town of Essex Certificate of Insurance form.

If a Certificate of Insurance cannot be presented at the time of booking, coverage will automatically be charged. Charges will be refunded once a Certificate of Insurance is submitted.
