Festivals and Events

The Town of Essex is home to many festivals and special events. At all times of the year there's always so much to do!

In 2017 we're celebrating our past!

"Get Your Red and White ON" takes place on July 29th at beautiful Colchester Harbour. We're celebrating Canada's and Ontario's 150th birthday - and we're also celebrating Colchester's 225 years! This community celebration and commemorative event aims to connect participants to the historical and cultural roots of Colchester, the oldest English settlement in Upper Canada south of the Niagara region. Colchester is also the southernmost inhabited community on mainland Canada, positioned on and below the 42nd parallel along the vibrant Lake Erie North Shore wine route. The event includes supervised children's activities, local musical performers, special entertainment, a beach volleyball tournament, a heritage plaque unveiling, and a spectacular display of fireworks over Lake Erie at nightfall. Save the date!

Spring typically begins with the Maple Syrup Festival at John R. Park Homestead in March and ends with the Colchester Walleye Fishing Derby (June 10) and the McGregor Music Festival (June 11).

Summer is chock full of events, starting with the Essex Fun Fest (July 6-9), Explore the Shore (July 29-30), the Lost Arts Festival (August 13),and the Essex County Steam and Gas Engine Show (August 11-13).

For over 160 years, the Harrow Fair (August 31-September 4), one of the oldest agricultural fairs in Ontario, has closed out the summer. This year the Fair is celebrating its 163rd anniversary!

Don't miss the McGregor Mug Run and International Beer Fest (September 23) or the Harvest and Horses Festival (October 1) this fall, or the Essex Train Show next February.
