2017 is Canada's and Ontario's 150th anniversary. And it's also Colchester's 225th!

Join the Town of Essex in celebrating these important milestones at this one-day, family-friendly event at Colchester Park.

Activities will include a beach volleyball tournament, children's activities, a heritage plaque dedication and official speeches, musical entertainment for the whole family, and spectacular fireworks over Colchester Harbour at dusk.

Originating in October 2015, The Rio Michaels Trio is comprised of Rio Michaels, Melanie Postma and Wade Sharp. The band appeals to everyone with its ever changing list of modern and classic country songs covering all the decades with just enough rock and dance tunes to provide some variety. Be sure to take in the parade of tractors and other vehicles through the hamlet of McGregor on Saturday morning. Parade lineup is 8:30 am at the McGregor Community Centre and parade starts at 9 a.m. sharp. ending at Co-An Park.

Lawrence Hank will perform starting at 7:00pm at Colchester Harbour Park on Jackson Street.

Genre: Blues

Larry Affeldt, also known as Lawrence Hank, comes from a family of musicians. His father, Gord Affeldt, was the first luthier in Canada to be certified by Fender guitars for repair. Gord built guitars with Mr. Bigsby in the 50's and would play with the likes of Johnny Cash and Roy Clark. This set the tone for a childhood surrounded by music. As years past music would change, but the desire to play stayed with Larry and his siblings. He has played everything from Patsy Cline to Iron Maiden and everywhere from Canada to Mexico.

Genre: Rock

Members are Tristan St. Amour (drums), Lucas Gregetz (guitar), Frankie Phillips (vocals), and Matt Taiariol (bass). Lucas is from Essex. Tristan, Frankie and Matt are from Windsor. The band formed in 2013 and plays original songs and covers of bands like The Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, The White Strips, Blink 182, and Paramore.

Harrow Fair

This is the 163rd year for the Harrow Fair!

Local volunteers have organized and hosted this annual agricultural fair every Labour Day weekend since 1854.

Highlights of the fair are almost too numerous to name... a mom calling contest, a pie auction, "bossy" bingo, a tractor pull, livestock and competitions galore.

Don't miss the Harrow Fair Parade on Saturday, September 2nd starting at 11:30 a.m. at the Country Depot and winding through downtown Harrow to the Harrow Fairgrounds.
