Maple Syrup Festival

Join us at the historic John R. Park Homestead for Essex County's only Maple Syrup Festival.
 
Make maple taffy in the snow, see syrup being made the pioneer way, and learn the science of maple.

Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children (3-16), with a family maximum of $20 total.

Arrive early, dress warmly and wear boots. Families tour the site with a costumed guide and discover the sweet process of maple syrup and sugar making in the pioneer method. Help carry the sap using pails and a wooden yoke. Try your hand at the brace and bit drill. See the trees tapped and the sap evaporating. Learn the history of this sweet springtime treat as you help to make and taste maple sugar. Starts at 1:30 pm sharp.

Pay at the door. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children (3-16), with a family maximum of $20 total.

Join us for an old-fashioned sugaring off party! Help collect sap and boil it down by moonlight. Make taffy on the snow, join in the barn dance, linger for star gazing and legends.

The Essex Centre Free Skates take place at the Essex Centre Sports Complex (60 Fairview Avenue West) and are sponsored by SX Video & PC Connection, along with Xplornet.

The Harrow Free Skate takes place at the Harrow and Colchester South Community Centre (243 McAffee Street) and is being sponsored by Healthy Kids Community Challenge.

Head out to the Colchester Walleye Derby hosted at Colchester Habour - the Walleye Capital of Canada - by the local Lions Club.

The event draws participants from near and far. The Kinsmen host the hospitality tent – lots of food and beverages! Activities include door prizes, beer tent, fish fry, cash prizes, and children’s play area. DJ entertainment will follow the derby awards and prizes.

Be sure to take in the parade of tractors and other vehicles through the hamlet of McGregor on Saturday morning. Parade lineup is 8:30 am at the McGregor Community Centre and parade starts at 9 a.m. sharp. ending at Co-An Park.

See vintage tractors, steam and gas engines, farm equipment, Carl Smith Saw Mill, craft vendors, entertainment and much more.
