Council and Ward Structure Review

The Town of Essex is undertaking a Council and Ward Structure Review that will consider the process by which the Deputy Mayor is elected, the composition of Town Council, and the number and size of wards.

Watson and Associates Economists Ltd. have been retained to conduct the Council and Ward Structure Review based on the Terms of Reference approved by Council. Public and stakeholder consultation is an important component of the review.

Watson and Associates will be on hand at the following Public Information Sessions to present draft options and gather public feedback:

Following the public consultation process, Watson and Associates will present their findings and a set of options for Council’s consideration. Any changes to the ward or Council structure must be confirmed in a municipal by-law that is passed prior to December 31, 2017.

Members of the community are encouraged to attend one of the Public Information Sessions to learn more about the review and to provide input.

Essex Rocks and Rolls Car/Motorcycle Cruise In

Location: Talbot and Wilson Street, Essex, Ontario

The 2nd Annual "Essex Rocks and Rolls Car/Motorcycle Cruise In takes place on Friday, May 26 at Heritage Gardens Park, near the Essex Memorial Spitfire ("Priscilla") and the historic Essex Railway Station (87 Station Street).

Cruise in to the parking lot at the corner of Talbot and Wilson Street your car or motorcycle.

Bring the kids and check out all the family entertainment, music, art, food and vendor booths.

Special guests include, Elvis (James Gibb), multi-winner of Collingwood Elvis festival, Todd Porter with his fiddle, and Jamie Troy MacLean as DJ.

Face painting, costume characters by Enchanted Adventure Parties, cotton candy and popcorn too!

50/50 draw proceeds will benefit the Canadian Arthritis Society.

This is a pet-friendly event. Water dishes will be available for pets.

Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides

Bring all members of the family for this year's Pet Value Walk for Dog Guides.

The walk begins at Pet Valu Essex (38 Arthur Avenue) and travels through downtown Essex Centre to Victoria Street and on to Sadler's Park, then back to Pet Valu Essex.

Dog Guides are provided at no cost to people with a physical or medical disability. Thanks to national sponsors, 100% of the funds raised from the Pet Valu Walk go directly to the six Dog Guide training programs.

Colchester Walleye Derby

Head out to the Colchester Walleye Derby hosted at Colchester Habour - the Walleye Capital of Canada - by the local Lions Club.

The event draws participants from near and far. The Kinsmen host the hospitality tent – lots of food and beverages! Activities include door prizes, beer tent, fish fry, cash prizes, and children’s play area. DJ entertainment will follow the derby awards and prizes.

McGregor Music Festival

Threshing demonstration twice daily, stock lawn tractor pulls, and antique tractor pull demonstrations. Featured tractors and machinery: International.

Be sure to take in the parade of tractors and other vehicles through the hamlet of McGregor on Saturday morning. Parade lineup is 8:30 am at the McGregor Community Centre and parade starts at 9 a.m. sharp. ending at Co-An Park.

See vintage tractors, steam and gas engines, farm equipment, Carl Smith Saw Mill, craft vendors, entertainment and much more.
